Program Goals
The Integrated Sustainability Certificate aims to educate and endow undergraduates with experience, expertise and knowledge gleaned from both arts and sciences and business scholars and leaders, so that they can tackle environmental challenges and envision potential pathways toward sustainability, on both an individual and societal level.
Learning Outcomes
Regardless of major or discipline a student who completes te Integrated Sustainability Certificate will be able to:
● Explain a worldview cognizant of our ability to live within ecological limits
● Demonstrate a systems perspective encompassing policy initiatives, ecosystem dynamics, social equity and environmental justice, the economy,
and societal infrastructure
● Utilize analytical techniques including triple bottom line and life cycle analysis
● Demonstrate the link between competitive advantage and corporate social responsibility
● Gain knowledge of the effects of individual level, community level, national level and international level choices on ecosystems and humans
● Explain how sustainability relates to personal values and how individual actions impact issues of sustainability
● Develop the ability to generate support for change through strong communication skills, consensus building strategies, and openness to new ideas
● Demonstrate an obligation to civic engagement
● Contribute to the creation and maintenance of inclusive communities on a local, national, and international level
● Gain hands-on experience through internships, group work, and community-based projects
● Construct and share a personal e-portfolio demonstrating experience, accomplishments, knowledge, and community engagement
